Situated within the heart of lower Valletta, the former abattoir, known as Il-Biċċerija, is an example of how a disused Grade 1 scheduled building can be rescued from obsolescence and given a new lease of life through sensitive adaptive reuse.  Despite the sheer scale of the undertaking, the project successfully adopts a cohesive and holistic approach to rehabilitation and conservation, from the re-paving of the surrounding streets, to the restoration of adjacent facades and the innovative integration of services to support its new use as a Design Cluster.
